I’m seated at a corner table across from Damion at the carousel bar in the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. The bar’s empty except for the two of us, but the carousel is still making its slow rotation around the room. I can’t see Damion’s face, as the light above us is out.

“Why can’t I see you in these dreams?” Damion’s secretary’s warning didn’t stick, clearly.

“You’ll be gifted with the perfection that is my human form when we’re unbound. Patience.”

“That in no way answers my question, you slippery demon lawyer,” I grumble.

An old fashioned with a cherry garnish appears in front of me. “I thought my wanton witch would like a change of scenery. Your favorite drink in your favorite bar with your favorite Cambion.”

“Do you ever get tired of seducing?”

“No,” he says, sending a phantom touch up and down my spine.

“What happens when the chase is over?” I ask, trying not to shiver.

“My secretary is right—I am a demon.”

I make a tsk tsk sound. “So you didn’t shield yourself.”

“And as a demon, I’ll show you exactly what it means to be possessed by me,” he says, that delicious scent of his filling the bar.

“You’ve already possessed me,” I say weakly.

He disappears and then suddenly, I can feel him behind me. “I want to see you. To smell you. To taste you. To drive my cock in you so deep you scream out in such exquisite ecstasy,” he whispers in my ear, and I have to clench my thighs together. “I want to brand you with my fire from the inside out and have you in every possible position,” he says, fisting a hand in my hair. “And maybe a few positions you’ve never even thought of.”

A whimper escapes my mouth. “No, I haven’t possessed you, my sweet Aubry. Let me know when you’re ready,” he says and is gone.
